Shakespeare’s Twelfth Night to be performed by Greenwich Academy and Brunswick School cast
(Greenwich, CT – January 25, 2007) – “If music be the food of love, play on!” William Shakespeare’s delightful romantic comedy, Twelfth Night, will be performed by Greenwich Academy and Brunswick School 9th and 10th grade students on Thursday, February 1, and Friday, February 2 in the Massey Theater, Wallace Performing Arts Center at Greenwich Academy.
Twelfth Night is the story about searching for completion in our hearts and in our heads. Twins are lost from one another in a terrible storm at sea while nobles are lost in love. The folly of the play brings couples together and turns order and status upside down. “Using puppetry, shadows, and wild costuming, we will explore the dualism that draws us every which way,” said Brunswick’s Upper School drama teacher and director Seth Potter.
Michael Bodela, a master puppeteer from New York City, is teaching students Kristen Berczuk and Christopher Baldock how to operate puppets that appear in the production. These original creations are three-quarter life-size and will appear as “musicians” in two scenes in Orsino's Court and Olivia's Court. Behind the puppets and puppeteers will be student accompanists, or “shadow musicians.”
A play that’s steeped in deception and self-deception, Twelfth Night is rich in implications that keep the audience enthralled.
Performances: Thursday, February 1, and Friday, February 2, at 7:00 p.m. in the Massey Theater at Greenwich Academy’s Wallace Performing Arts Center, 200 North Maple Avenue, Greenwich CT.
