Preceding Greenwich Academy’s Thanksgiving recess, the entire school gathers to collect food and clothing for distribution to local families at a special assembly called Ingathering, which will take place this year on Tuesday, November 20, 2007. The focus of this traditional event is service to our local community. Each class is asked to bring different items. For example, each tenth-grader will contribute cans of vegetables or apple sauce, each fifth-grade student will bring in bottled water or a small deodorant, tube of toothpaste and a toothbrush and each senior will donate a blanket. As the students enter the assembly, they will fill huge boxes for distribution. Teachers and alums are asked to donate turkeys. The food is delivered in holiday baskets to local families for their Thanksgiving dinners, organized though Greenwich Social Services. The clothing and blankets will be stored until Upper School students participate in the Midnight Run in New York City during the cold winter months.

At the assembly, community service representatives from each school division will report on various service projects, the Sally Casey Award will be presented to one student who has completed outstanding summer community service and there will be musical performances.
