Contemporary dance at Greenwich Academy

GREENWICH ACADMEMY Greenwich Academy artist-in-residence Shalewa Mackall presented Movement for the Urban Village during an informal showing on Monday, October 29, 2007. Movement for the Urban Village is the title of both her dance company and the movement language used to create her dances. Her style has deep roots in the techniques and traditions of the African Diaspora, and is presented in a way that is unapologetically contemporary. The program culminated with student participation since many of the dance students had worked with Shalewa in classes and in preparation for a piece of choreography for Greenwich Academy's holiday dance program.
