Music in the Lower School is based on the Kodaly method.
Skills are developed through singing, listening, reading , writing,
creating and performing music. The tools used are the moveable do
system of solfege, rhythm duration syllables and hand signs. The
materials used include the music of great composers, folk and patriotic
songs and quality children's music of several styles. The use of
Orff-designed instruments, rhythm instruments and recorders offers
another dimension of expression. Orchestral instruments are identified
by sight and sound and familiar classical themes are part of the
listening curriculum. Special emphasis is given to the development
of healthy vocal and choral techniques at every level. Participation
in concerts and musicals throughout the year allows the girls to
gain confidence in performance and to share with others the beauty
of the music.
