LOWER SCHOOL ACADEMICS

Lower School Head Jeanette Tyndall with studentsThe Lower School is composed of Grades Pre-Connecting (four and young five-year-olds) through Group IV. Its program is designed to provide a challenging, supportive environment for learning and growth. Our teaching staff works to build strong relationships with both the children and their parents, for we are convinced that such relationships help young people to make a positive transition from family life to the life and learning of the school community.

To plan appropriate learning experiences for each student and her class, teachers assess carefully the individual's academic, physical and social skills. As children master the basic skills, they grow in confidence and problem solving competence. They are motivated to expand their interests and abilities and to take pride in their own and others' accomplishments. A primary objective of the Lower School program is to inspire a love of learning and an appreciation for the interrelatedness of all disciplines.

While group instruction is stressed, individual guidance and reinforcement are provided. Enrichment activities and attention to special needs are offered at all levels to provide for optimum challenge.
